I wanted to give him something unforgettable.<\/p>\n

The night before, Mark surprised me with chamomile tea. That alone should have set off alarms.<\/p>\n

Instead, I booked the next flight. Business class. Outrageously expensive. Worth every cent.<\/p>\n

By sunset, I was standing in the hallway of the resort I had paid for, knocking on the door of the suite booked under my husband\u2019s name.<\/p>\n

A woman answered.<\/p>\n

She was young. Polished. Confident in a way that made my chest tighten.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m looking for my husband,\u201d I said calmly.<\/p>\n

She frowned. \u201cHusband?\u201d<\/p>\n

I stayed calm.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou tried to replace me while I was unconscious,\u201d I said evenly. \u201cThat isn\u2019t family. That\u2019s betrayal.\u201d<\/p>\n

Then I told Mark I was filing for divorce.<\/p>\n

Not because of the trip.<\/p>\n

Not even because of the woman.<\/p>\n

But because he had chosen his mother\u2019s comfort over his wife\u2019s dignity\u2014and that told me everything I needed to know about the rest of my life with him.<\/p>\n

I left them there.<\/p>\n
