Residents of Oklahoma recently stumbled upon strange, sac-like objects hanging from tree roots at a local lake. The discovery immediately triggered speculation, with locals fearing something extraterrestrial.
However, experts have calmed fears, explaining that these odd sacs belong to an ancient species known as bryozoans. These creatures, which predate the dinosaurs, are completely harmless and might even benefit the lake’s ecosystem.
The sacs, though they look like alien eggs, are actually clusters of tiny bryozoans. Bryozoans are invertebrates that form large colonies by cloning themselves. Their hard outer shell protects the colony as they filter water for food. Typically found in ponds and lakes, this recent discovery was made in McGee Creek Reservoir.
